Who We Are

Drift & Convergence is owned by Donald Coleman and can be reached at contact@doncoleman.ca or through our contact form.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Subscription data: Your name and email when you subscribe to our newsletter or create an account
  • Contact form submissions: Your name, email address, and message when you contact us
  • Comments: Any content you post in comments sections

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the site, we may collect:

  • Basic analytics: Page views and traffic sources (non-identifiable)
  • Technical information: Browser type and general device characteristics used to generate an anonymous session identifier

For rate limiting and security purposes, we create a one-way hash of your IP address. This hash cannot be reversed to reveal your actual IP address. We do not store raw IP addresses.

Information for Members

If you create an account or subscribe as a member, we verify your membership status using Ghost's secure authentication. For members, we may store:

  • Email address (for account identification)
  • Membership tier access levels

Information for Anonymous Visitors

For visitors who are not logged in, we generate a server-side session fingerprint using:

  • Browser type
  • IP address (hashed, not stored directly)
  • Language preferences

This fingerprint helps us manage rate limits and prevent abuse. It cannot identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Deliver our newsletter and content
  • Respond to your inquiries through the contact form
  • Enable comments and community features
  • Provide AI-powered features (critical questions and related topics) on articles
  • Manage rate limits to ensure fair access for all users
  • Improve our services and user experience

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

AI Features

Our optional AI features (critical thinking questions and related topics) work as follows:

  1. When you use an AI feature, only the article's content is sent to our AI service
  2. Your personal information is not sent to AI providers
  3. AI responses are cached and shared across users to reduce costs and improve speed
  4. Usage is logged with hashed IP addresses for rate limiting and analytics

AI features are provided through OpenRouter, which routes requests to various AI providers including Anthropic (Claude) and others. Only article content is transmitted; no personal information is shared with these providers.
